Frequently asked questions

Who qualifies for weight loss surgery?

Eligibility is based on your body mass index, related health conditions such as diabetes or sleep apnea, and your insurance requirements. We review your history together at a consultation.

What is the difference between gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy?

A sleeve gastrectomy removes a large part of the stomach, leaving a narrow tube. A gastric bypass creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine. Each has benefits and trade-offs, and the right one depends on your health, goals and other conditions.

Will insurance cover weight loss surgery?

Coverage varies by plan. Many plans have specific requirements, such as documented attempts at weight loss or a supervised program. Call the office at 973-389-5265 and we can help you understand what your plan asks for.

Do you follow patients after surgery?

Yes. We follow our patients for life, because staying in touch over the years is part of keeping the results.

What if I had surgery elsewhere and have problems or regained weight?

We see patients from outside practices. Dr. Talishinskiy will review your history and discuss whether revision surgery or another approach is right for you.
